![]() I had imagined that I would be preparing my matt black lacquer background with a 600-grit sandpaper, so I wanted to know which grade of pumice stone would be similar to this so I can have some uniformity between the black background and the (red and gold) painted designs. This rules out the use of sandpaper once the hand painting of the design has commenced (I imagine it won't be able to match the contours of the lacquer design). To give some more detail about the style and process I am hoping to imitate : some designs are deliberately built up to be somewhat 3-dimensional and are often polished and re-polished as the image is built up (as part of the process of creating and shading the image, not applying a finish to it). ![]() That said, I was somewhat confused about my plan so thank you for your answer as it made me clarify my thinking process a great deal. It is also used to do sanding of the wood with the sandpaper grain. Sandpaper grade of 60 to 120 is used to remove leftover paint stripper. 46-120 grade sandpaper is used to clean the surface of sandstone, brick and solid wood. Patterns are hand painted on a matt background and then a clear coat is added, which is the one that gets the polishing. Sandpaper of grade that falls between 24 and 60 is used to trim the surface of old paint and metal. The higher the grit number, the finer the abrasive particles and the smoother the finish that can be achieved. The grit is a rating of the size of the abrasive particles embedded in the sandpaper. In response to your question, ED65, all my research on the subject of Japanese lacquer designs has pointed me in the same direction that you have indicated. There are 6 main sandpaper grits, categorised by coarse, medium, fine and extra fine. For most DIY sanding projects you will need 60-240 grit sandpaper. Grits below 40 only need to be used on wood that has a lot of paint or varnish to be removed. ![]() Extra fine grits like 400 are used to get a really fine finish on wood for waxing and polishing. Hi everyone, some really great replies again. Girts above 240 can be used between coats of paint to help get a super smooth finish. ![]()

The Facebook site has stored the details of the user in a database along with other details such as interests, facebook friends, liked pages, etc. In that case, the look of the site depends on the username and password of the person. The server creates a different interface based on the user’s inputs. ![]() Another Facebook user will see a different home page and different feed. For example, when you log in to your Facebook account you see your home feed and the recent updates from your friends. The browser still receives an HTML file but that was not “pre-written” but created by the server-side programming language. A dynamic website interacts with a database and the user can affect the “code” based on his inputs. The content is generated “dynamically” with every request and it can be different from user to user. I created a small static website in my pc to show you how the documents of a static website look like.Ī dynamic website’s code is written on server-side languages such as PHP or node.js. Sometimes is very hard to distinguish a static and dynamic website. showcase/, gohugo.io/showcase/, /showcase/Īs I already said the static websites have evolved over the years and they have incorporated a lot of functionalities. So, your website’s server will not interact with the user by exchanging data. ![]() The difference is that the login details will be stored in a third-party app or external database. ** Very important note: Static websites have evolved over the years and now you can add functionalities such as user accounts and comments. A static site isn’t connected with a database in the server so there is no place to store all that data and retrieve it when needed. He can’t generate content such as comments. For instance, the online visitor can’t create an account and send that details back to the server. If the server stores a static website it will send that code once. For example, where will be the images placed or the distance between paragraphs. The code is a collection of instructions for the browser of how it will present the website. When the browser has the code then it can show to the user the final result. The browser requests the code (and other files such as images) from the server. It has to do with the tech structure of the website.īoth static and dynamic sites are stored in servers (specialized computers) and online visitors can reach them by using their browser (google chrome). So a static website is mostly a tech term and not what we assume. People assume that static means the site doesn’t have graphics or it isn’t interactive at all. For example, if you click a button and it changes color then the exact same will happen to the next online visitor. That doesn’t mean you can’t interact with the web page but your action will have the same effect as for another user. ![]() The actions or preferences of the user can’t affect the initial code. A 2020 study by Grubert found three-quarters of U.S. "What you wouldn't want to do is pull that reliability out when it's actually not ready to retire."īut multiple lines of research suggest that may not make economic sense. "They're providing stability reliability to communities," Wilcox said. The fuel overtook coal as the U.S.'s top source of electricity in 2016 and made up nearly 44% of the country's power production. She gave the example of new natural gas-fired power plants, of which nearly 5.7 gigawatts of new capacity were added in the U.S. There are cases where CCS could be used on existing fossil fuel plants responsibly, according to Jennifer Wilcox, principal deputy assistant secretary in the Energy Department's Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management. The industry sees it as a way to potentially continue pumping more oil and gas, including plans to use the captured CO 2 to extract even more fossil fuels. Doing so has proven challenging for the industry to date, but IRA tax incentives have created renewed interest. The oil and gas industry, though, is among the biggest backers of CCS, with companies looking to retrofit power plants and refineries with the technology. Science shows that CCS largely shouldn't be used when alternatives such as renewable energy are readily available. In some cases, it may make more sense to retrofit a new steel plant with carbon capture technology rather than pursuing other avenues such as electrification, according to analysis from BloombergNEF, which found that doing so could abate as much as 600 million tons of CO 2 per year by mid-century. While startups and incumbents are looking at ways to produce the world's most used metal without the emissions, the costs are great and the industry needs to cut emissions rapidly. Steelmaking is another industrial process with few immediate decarbonization pathways. "Unless you come up with a replacement for cement or a vastly different formulation, there's not a way around those emissions without using something like CCS," Grubert said. Startups like Brimstone are working on cement decarbonization, but most of the techniques to clean up cement are far from ready for mass commercialization. While parts of the cement-making process can be electrified, some of the CO 2 emissions from production are "fundamental to the process," said Emily Grubert, an associate professor of sustainable energy policy at the University of Notre Dame. One of those hard-to-abate sectors is cement, which accounts for about 8% of global emissions. "The real utility of carbon capture is addressing the hard-to-abate emissions that can't be dealt with," said Ben Grove, carbon storage manager at the Clean Air Task Force, a climate research nonprofit. But research shows that the use cases where that would be beneficial to the climate are fairly narrow. Point source can be deployed at oil, gas and heavy industry facilities. Other technologies pull already-emitted CO 2 out of the ambient air, a process called direct air capture (DAC). So-called point source carbon capture and storage (CCS) grabs CO 2 at the smokestack of sites such as industrial plants. There are two main ways machines are used to capture carbon. In the coming years, the world will have to decide whether carbon capture can be deployed responsibly-and what to do with the CO 2. These tensions were front and center at last year's COP28 climate talks held in the oil-rich United Arab Emirates, where the technology was a central pillar of the summit's agreement. Costs, too, could limit its utility, and there are questions whether the technology can even be scaled up in the first place. The fossil fuel industry's involvement, in particular, has raised the specter that carbon capture could be used to prolong oil and gas extraction, endangering the climate rather than helping protect it. Yet for all the momentum and growing need to decarbonize, the technology has drawn mounting opposition. The U.S., in particular, has focused on boosting carbon capture thanks to the Energy Department investing billions of dollars in the technology and attractive tax credits in the Inflation Reduction Act for project developers.Ī growing array of science also shows the world will need to capture carbon at a fairly vast scale in the coming decades to limit global warming to 1.5☌. Governments and climate activists are pressing companies to eliminate their emissions, but there's doubt whether solar, wind and batteries can do so alone. ![]() ![]() >Hexen 2 is on Steam, but not gamejolt, itch.io nor GOG.
